Long Lost Friend

My cousin and I went to a new Thai restaurant this weekend to try out something new. When we were seated I noticed someone who looked so familiar but I was unable to remember what her name was from far away. As she approached to take our order I saw her name tag and then it all came back to me on where I remember her from. It was Angela from middle school who happened to be my best friend at the time. I couldn’t believe that if I hadn’t seen her name tag I would have just sat there all night wondering where I remembered her from. We ended up talking all night and are going to get together this weekend to get lunch and talk about the fun times we had in middle school together. I am so glad we decided to try a new place to eat that night!

The Hell Panel of Bosch’s famous triptych, The Garden of Earthly Delights, makes excellent use of color and atmosphere to create a feeling of intense dread and disharmony, its one of my favourite abstract canvas prints I have in my house.

Strange creatures and animals populate the landscape, and seem to torment the humans in their midst. The piece includes a great deal of cacophonous, disharmonious imagery. Musical instruments are present, but they do not evoke feelings of a sound that is pleasant–in fact, a massive harp seems to act as a torture device for a poor fellow trapped amidst its long strings. A knife wedged between two ears also evokes this theme of painful sound. From the foreground to the background, the artist masterfully uses color to create a darkening feeling. The actions taking place in the foreground are visibly frightening, but the growing, hazy darkness in the background, through which some light barely penetrates, may be even more ominous. The piece exemplifies the ability of a masterful artist to create a powerful atmosphere that evokes feelings from viewers.
